There is also the awkward fact that much “artisanal” marketing merely borrows the language of craft to sell ordinary factory goods at a premium. Still, at its honest best, the enduring appeal of the handmade reminds us that we value not only what an object does, but the visible evidence of the care and time invested in making it.
