In the middle of Turkey lies an amazing place called Derinkuyu. Long ago, people dug a whole city deep under the ground. It had many levels, and thousands of people could live there. The underground city included rooms for sleeping, kitchens, and even spaces for animals. Fresh air came down through narrow tunnels, and heavy stone doors could close the entrances. People used the city to hide when enemies attacked their region. For many years, the tunnels were forgotten. Then, in 1963, a man broke through a wall in his house and discovered the dark rooms below. Today, visitors from all over the world walk through this strange and clever place.
