Hay / existe — There is / There are

🎯 Practicar este tema

Se usa "there is" para indicar que existe una cosa (singular), y "there are" para indicar que existen varias cosas (plural).

  • There is a cat in the garden.Hay un gato en el jardín.
  • There are five students in the class.Hay cinco estudiantes en la clase.

En la negación se añade not (no hay), y en la pregunta se invierte el orden a "Is there...?" o "Are there...?".

  • There isn't any milk in the fridge. No hay leche en el refrigerador.
  • Are there any questions?¿Hay preguntas?

⚠️ Errores comunes de los hispanohablantes

  • Uso de "there is" con plural: "There is two chairs" en vez de "There are two chairs".
  • Traducción literal de "yo tengo" como "there is to me" en vez de "I have".
  • Omitir toda la estructura: decir "Is a book on the table?" en vez de "Is there a book on the table?".
