Reportar órdenes y peticiones — tell/ask + object + (not) to-infinitive

  • The teacher told us to open our books.
  • He asked me to close the window.Él me pidió que cerrara la ventana.

  • She told the children not to shout.
  • They asked us not to be late.Nos pidieron que no llegáramos tarde.

⚠️ Errores comunes de los hispanohablantes

  • Después de tell y ask debe ir un objeto antes del to-infinitive: "He told me to wait", no "He told to wait".
  • La negación se forma con not antes de to: "She asked me not to leave", no "She asked me to not leave" o "She asked me don't leave".
  • No se debe usar un that-clause con that para una orden: no "He told that I wait", sino "He told me to wait".
