Reporte pasivo impersonal — It is said that... / He is believed to...

Para reportar una opinión general sin indicar quién la dice, se usa la construcción impersonal It is said/believed/thought + that-clause.

  • It is said that the castle is haunted.Se dice que el castillo está embrujado.
  • It is believed that prices will rise.Se cree que los precios subirán.

Una construcción alternativa es la personal: el sujeto del that-clause pasa al principio de la oración, seguido de un verbo pasivo + to-infinitive.

  • The minister is believed to be resigning.Se cree que el ministro está dimitiendo.
  • She is thought to have left the country.Se piensa que ella ha abandonado el país.

⚠️ Errores comunes de los hispanohablantes

  • En la construcción It is said that hay que mantener It como sujeto formal; no se debe omitir: "It is said that...", no "Is said that...".
  • En la construcción personal He is believed to va un to-infinitive y no un that-clause: "He is believed to be rich", no "He is believed that he is rich".
  • Para el pasado se usa to have + past participle: "She is thought to have left", no "She is thought to leave" cuando se trata del pasado.
