כדי לדווח על דעה כללית בלי לציין מי אומר זאת, משתמשים במבנה הלא-אישי It is said/believed/thought + that-clause.
- It is said that the castle is haunted.אומרים שהטירה רדופת רוחות.
- It is believed that prices will rise.מאמינים שהמחירים יעלו.
מבנה חלופי הוא האישי: הנושא של ה-that-clause עובר לתחילת המשפט, ואחריו פועל סביל + to-infinitive.
- The minister is believed to be resigning.מאמינים שהשר מתפטר.
- She is thought to have left the country.סבורים שהיא עזבה את המדינה.
⚠️ Häufige Fehler von Deutschsprachigen
- במבנה It is said that יש להשאיר את It כנושא ריק; אין להשמיטו: "It is said that...", לא "Is said that...".
- במבנה האישי He is believed to בא to-infinitive ולא that-clause: "He is believed to be rich", לא "He is believed that he is rich".
- לזמן עבר משתמשים ב-to have + past participle: "She is thought to have left", לא "She is thought to leave" כשמדובר בעבר.
