Yossi never thought of himself as a sporty person. At school, he was always the last one chosen for teams, and as an adult he avoided exercise completely. That changed when his doctor told him, at the age of forty, that he needed to move more. A friend suggested a popular running plan for beginners: three short runs a week, mixing walking and slow running. The first weeks were hard. Yossi’s legs hurt, and he felt embarrassed when faster runners passed him in the park. But he kept going, mainly because the plan grew slowly and never asked too much at once. After nine weeks, he ran thirty minutes without stopping for the first time in his life. He still doesn’t call himself an athlete, but he hasn’t missed a week of running in over a year.
